2001: A Space Odyssey

A masterpiece from Stanley Kubrick, shown in 70mm widescreeen format. Each time you see this film, it gets better. Especially in this beautiful new print, with its new, clearer sound track. Not only were the were the opening scenes staggeringly beautiful, but in retrospect you realise how audacious it was in 1968 for Kubrick to begin a film about the future at the dawn of civilisation! Moreover, there were parts of the soundtrack I had never heard clearly before, including one crucial and horrifying moment after Frank Poole is cut loose in space. I gave this one a standing ovation. I think it is one of the great achievements of the cinema, and of art in general.
