Welcome to the Sticks (Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis)

This film is simply hilarious.  But it is also a guilty pleasure. Don't judge it by the first 10 minutes, which verge on the embarrassing, because of questionable taste (and had me stifling my laughs). But the physical humour kept me there, and then the subject-matter changed, and the film became a heartwarming fish-out-of-water story, with a dysfunctional love story on top, plus a valentine from writer/ director/ star Dany Boon to his beloved North of France.

I'm re-learning French and I found the French language funny enough, but watching how the subtitlers managed to convey the verbal horseplay was truly wondrous. The French just love it! And they say it is absolutely true.

Go see it when you want to relax and have a good laugh.  It's not rocket surgery, but it is chucklesome and sweet.
